Una Voce Illini

Home

Una Voce Illini is an official chapter of Una Voce America in Champaign-Urbana. We are a group of faithful Roman Catholics who share the goal of promoting and facilitating the celebration of the extraordinary form of the Mass (also known as the Traditional Latin Mass or the Tridentine Latin Mass). We also support and promote related traditional practices, such as Gregorian chant.

Nov 3 - All Souls' Day Requiem High Mass at Newman at 7:00 PM

Pray for the faithful departed and worship God this All Souls' Day at St. John's Requiem High Mass. A large choir of students from the University of Illinois will sing the famous Renaissance composer Victora's beautiful polyphonic Mass setting Requiem a 4 Voces and ancient Gregorian chant. Sept 14 - Sunday High Mass and Social at 12:00 PM

Canon Flattery will be celebrating a Sung Mass on Sunday, September 14 at noon on the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This feast day marks the 7th year anniversary of Pope Benedict's Summorum Pontificum. This important document freely opened the riches of the Tridentine Latin Mass to all Catholics who desire it. After Mass we will have a social to celebrate the anniversary of Summorum Pontificum. Light refreshments will be served.

The girls choir Schola Rosa Mystica Angelorum from the University of Illinois will sing Gregorian chant for the Mass. The Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's in Westville, IL. The address for the church is:

May 11 - Sunday Low Mass, Third Sunday after Easter, at 12:00 PM

May 5 - Tridentine Latin High Mass at Newman at 7:00 PM

Experience the beauty and spiritual treasures of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. Come to know the Mass that the saints prayed for hundreds of years. Celebrate the feast of Pope St. Pius V using the missal he issued and that our newest saint, Pope St. John XXIII, reissued. Father Scott Archer will celebrate the Mass and the students of the University of Illinois, under the direction of Heath Morber, will sing a modern polyphonic setting Missa Spe Salvi by Peter Kwasniewski.

April 20 - Easter Sunday High Mass at 12:00 PM

Canon Flattery will be celebrating a Missa Cantata (Sung Mass) with incense and torchbearers. A semi-professional male and female choir will sing the great Renaissance composer William Byrd's Mass for Three Voices. Worship aids will be provided in English and Spanish. Feb 19 - History of the Liturgy at 7:00 PM

Canon John Flattery will be giving a talk on the history of the liturgy. The talk will trace the historical development of the Mass in both the East and West, starting from the Jewish liturgy and establishing the continuity of thinking between the Jewish and Christian concept of worship. Canon Flattery is a senior priest of the Diocese of Peoria living in Danville who has a keen interest in history. The event can be found on Faceboook here.

Nov 7 - Requiem High Mass and Social at Newman at 7:00 PM

Experience the solemn beauty of a Traditional Requiem Mass fully chanted! The Mass will feature the famous Spanish Renaissance composer Victora's polyphonic Mass setting Requiem a 4 Voces and ancient Gregorian chant. Worship aids will be provided in English, Spanish, Korean, and Chinese. The Mass will be followed by a social in the social hall. Root beer floats, doughnuts, and cookies will be served. Oct 27 - Sunday High Mass for the feast of Christ the King at 11:00 AM

Sep 29 - Sunday High Mass for the feast of St. Michael the Archangel at 10:00 AM

Canon Flattery will be celebrating a Missa Cantata (Sung Mass) in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite on the feast of St. Michael. The Mass will feature Gregorian chant and organ performed by an all girls' schola. The schola is a newly formed group of students from the University of Illinois.

Canon Flattery will be offering his first public Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite since 1965! This Mass will be a Low Mass with organ music and Latin hymns. The Mass will be celebrated in honor of our patroness, Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

May 30 - Meeting and Holy Hour at St. Elizabeth

Holy Hour for Corpus Christi on Thursday, May 30th at 6:30 PM at St. Elizabeth in Thomasboro, IL. Followed by a reflection by Father Bird, and a talk by Una Voce Illini on the Extraordinary Form of the Mass, in the social hall at 7:30 PM. Donuts and light refreshments will be provided by Una Voce Illini.

I am sad to say this will be our last event with Father Bird. Father Bird is being reassigned to the Quad Cities. We thank him for all that he has done for us, for his prayers, and the beautiful mass he offered on Ascension Thursday. Pray that God will bless Father Bird's ministry and send us many more Masses in the Extraordinary Form!

May 9 - Traditional Latin Mass at St. Elizabeth

The Elevation

Father Bird will be celebrating his first Missa Cantata (sung high mass) at 7:00 PM at St. Elizabeth's in Thomasboro, IL on Ascension Thursday. The Mass will feature a full choir, torchbearers, and incense!

The choir will perform William Byrd's Mass for Five Voices as well as plainchant and Byrd's polyphonic settings of the Propers. The organist will also play early English organ works by Byrd, John Redford, and Thomas Preston. The choir will consist of five professional singers: Yaritza Zayas and Jihyun Kim, soprano, Chris Holman, countertenor, Stephen Boyer, tenor, and John Wagstaff, baritone.

Una Voce Illini will make a brief announcement prior to Mass about the aims of Una Voce. After Mass we will be signing up members. This is a very important event for Una Voce Illini and for building a Latin Mass Community in the Champaign area so please invite all your friends!
